I won't be able to go, but thought you all might find this cool to be a part of. If I could, I'd be there. Missy
Instead of our regular monthly Sierra Club meeting at Freedom Park, we will participate in a volunteer event this Saturday. See details below. Hope to see you there!
March 21, 2009 Volunteer Event
@ James Martin Middle School
When: 9am - 12pm, Saturday March 21st (1st Day of Spring!)
Mark your calendars now! We have an exciting opportunity for volunteers to get involved in the local community while celebrating the first day of spring outside!
March 21, 2009 -- Help James Martin Middle School plant an outdoor learning environment!
About the event: On March 21st, 9-12am at James Martin Middle School (IBM Drive, near I-85 and Harris Blvd.), 100 eager students, teachers, and volunteers will be gathering to turn what is now a drab, sparse entry way into what we hope to be an inspiring garden that provides opportunities for positive outdoor learning experiences for the students. We'll be there to help them get started, but this project will also serve as an ongoing community service project for the students allowing them to take pride in their campus and create opportunities to teach important life lessons. Let's help them kick off the project!
What we need: Volunteers will help students plan, prepare and create the garden. We'll have Meck Co. Master Gardeners on hand, so NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY (and you may even learn something for free)!
We'll also need help with refreshments, set-up, clean-up, etc. If gardening is your passion and you would like to help lead, teach something or have a suggestion around the structure of the event, please let me know. Please specify if you are interested in donating refreshments and/or bringing tools for the event.
Email Liz Barrett at eliz.barrett@gmail.com if you are interested, have questions, or want to sign-up to volunteer for this event.
