I would start slowly, 1 tablespoon a day. Increase by a tablespoon each week, gradually.

Bifidum is not in kefir, but kefir helps increase bifidum in the stool. Basically, the microbials help to rebalance the gut so that bifidum can reproduce more effectively. While pregnant, it won't hurt to take additional bifidum. However, most dry probiotics don't survive to the gut, due to improper ph in the stomach. There is tons of lactobacillis acidophilus in kefir.
Pat - how much do you take daily if you're looking for supplementation and not treating a specific condition?

I read somewhere that it was still recommended to do an additional supplementation of acidophilus and bifidus; have you ever run across this?

And thanks for my grains! :-)
hi Pat, this is great info about kefir. I think I'll give it a try, it may work for me. I'll call you if I can come for some grains. thanks
