I will have SCOBY available to others as well. I am in the Waxhaw area. I have been using SCOBY babies for all sorts of other uses. We have a septic system, so once a month or so I will chop up a SCOBY and flush it. I believe the the bacteria and yeasts help breakdown materials in your septic and keep it 'healthy' as well. I have also recently experimented with putting SCOBY in my small pond to keep the water clear from green algae. So far the pond looks much clearer. I noticed foam on it this…

I wonder if my pond water is becoming carbonated?! There are many frogs and tadpoles that live there as well and so far they seem to be thriving. I am not sure where everyone who wants a SCOBY is - I am about 1/2 hr north of Charlotte and have several multilayered SCOBYs ready to share. I use a 1 gallon mason jar - we drilled holes in the metal top and lay fabric beneath, we keep them on top of the fridge to grow. We generally drink it before it ever gets to the fridge, but we have 2 batches going at all times. :-) Easy to make - just get a SCO…tag:xploringholisticalternatives.ning.com,2009-08-10:2327957:Comment:144852009-08-10T03:54:40.825ZFranciehttp://xploringholisticalternatives.ning.com/profile/Francie

ooh, where did you get the recipe? I have been drinking the bottled kind from Earthfare, and i spend a fortune on it (even though I buy it on sale and stock the entire bottom shelf of my fridge, it still adds up!) I started drinking it a couple months ago, when my family went non-dairy. (My son, almost 18 months now, has a dairy sensitivity and possibly a full-blown allergy, we're not sure yet.) Sarah, I think you might want to try fermenting longer. Mine has never been ready at 7 days, usually 10 - 14.

Joette, mine is on the counter with the napkin. I think the key is out of the sun. I don't have the cabinet space for it.

I do sometimes filter if there is that yeasty floaty stuff :) but it's usually pretty clear. It will grow tiny SCOBYs in the fridge some times.
I do have fillings. No headaches, thank goodness! And just so I'm not getting too descriptively gross here, I'll just say that it's not so I'm ready to dump the stuff down the drain. I've had GI issues most of my life, so nothing new there! Thanks for the suggestions, Pat! :-)
Hey, my second batch fermented for a week. Then I did Anna's grape juice, and now it tastes great! It really tastes like the fake sparkling wine we buy for the kids for New Years' Eve!

BUT... does this stuff make anyone's else's digestive system a little off? I think it's only me, not the rest of my family. UGH!
