Any of you fabulous EBFers give your LO vitamins too? So far I have not but we've been battling illness here for weeks and I'm beginning to get curious as to what else I can do. I offer a wide variety of veggies but very few actually make it into my 17 mo stomach these days... Is there even such a thing as a whole foods multivitamin for toddlers??? Thanks for any input!

Lets take the time to introduce ourselves (or re-introduce) to each other!

I am Gina. I have three children. Harrison, age 12. Abby will be 8 in February (2010) and Jason just turned one.

I had the goal to nurse my first for 6 months and somehow 6 months turned into 6 years. When Harrisosn was a newborn, I never would have imagined I would nurse past one year but now I can not imagine having parented my children any other way.

I view nursing as an extension of parenting and believe in child-led weaning. I also believe that each mother needs to do what works for herself and her baby.
Nursing an Active Toddlertag:xploringholisticalternatives.ning.com,2010-01-21:2327957:Topic:162672010-01-21T21:25:37.037ZGina Grothoffhttp://xploringholisticalternatives.ning.com/profile/GinaGrothoff

It is official. My baby had his first birthday and so once again I am actively involved in extended breasfeeding! This is my third child. I nursed the other two,....I usually say...a really long time (we made up for generations who did not nurse).

So now I have this busy, active, nursing boy. He was an early eater of solid foods, I started around 5 months because he seamed so eager- and by 9 months he was eating 3 meals a day and sometimes more. This has been unusual for me because my other two were not very interested in solids until much later.

So he really was getting where he would not nurse much in the day, except before naps and upon waking for naps and in the evening and of course at night. But then, this week, he seamed to not be feeling well and began nursing more during the day and at night. It has gone on for a few days. I thought he was feeling better yesterday, we went to the park with friends and he ran away from me and played. But today he has been clingy all day, won't let me set him down, can't seam to distract him. He did eat some today but continues to nurse a lot and eat far less than he was.

I know some of this is him not feeling well (he sleeps more and is not his usual self). But I wonder too how much is developmental. I know others have described eager eaters who then around this age, loose interest in food.

My two other children are 7(almost 8) and 12 years old, and so it has been awhile since I have had a toddler.

Nursing and napping
This has been mychallenge for over a month. 7 month old only naps in car, like right now, with me or in carrier.
I am all about attachment parenting but with two older children, somedays I wishi could lay him down to nap. All my efforts at nursing him down have not worked and so now I hardly even try.
He has been seething lot and the minute he stirs, he starts crawling.
Anyone have baby like this and did it change over time?
I have a question about summertime nursing. My 10 mos old and I keep passing this yeast back and forth. Any ideas how to squelch that? I am a runner therefore a sweat-er, so is it unavoidable? I've tried baking soda (still working with that, it helps), tried bathing 3x a day, tried staying inside most of the time...tried probiotics, tried yogurt on skin, tried (uggghh) medicine prescribed by doctor. Any ideas? Much appreciated!

Nursing in the summer can present new challenges from traveling, to being with family and trying to nurse discretely in a bathing suit. My only nursling right now is still an infant but I found myself at the pool needing to nurse. I discovered having a top over my suit made it easy to nurse discretely. Funny how I never figured this out with my other two (or maybe I did and I forgot).
I can remember being at the pool with my first child when he was an infant. Another mother asked if I was nursing him and when I said yes, she whispered to me, "I am still nursing my 2 year old but I don't tell anyone." Her comment has stuck with me all these years and has sparked in me the desire to not hide nursing a toddler ( even more challenging when they are over 3.)
Share your challenges and how you have handled them, share a funny story or pose a question.
Some ideas:
Do you nurse a toddler at the pool or beach and do you try to be discrete and if so, how while wearing a swim suit?
How do you handle comments from relatives or friends on "How long are you going to nurse that child?" When nursing my ds discretly in public, I often wonder if breastfeeding would be more appealing and practiced more readily if more women knew the ease and convenience of breastfeeding discretly in public. Now that my son is turning one, I am looking forward to EBF him in public just as before. How have other Moms handled breastfeeding in public? Do all of you try to be very discrete? Is nursing modestly something that's important to you in public?

I saw a lot of comments about this on the wall so I though I would start a discussion.
My cycle always returned 4 weeks after things settled down for both of my kids even though I was nursing! :-( I have always been jealous of those that get any amount of break from their cycles!
