Exploring Holistic Alternatives

Families practicing: Alternative & Natural Health; Attachment and Mindful Parent

I have thought for a while now (and he is finally convinced) that my husband needs a good overall cleansing detox. I just think he has years and years of crap built up in his system.

We used to occasionally do a 5 day fruit/fruit juice fast. That was somewhat helpful, but I know there are better ways. I am not sure of what herbs/tonics/processes would be best.

Can anyone recommend a way to do this or some resources for it. Just something that would push toxins out and allow him to rejuvenate. Thanks.

Anyone?? Advice??
I don't know anything about detox, other than with mercury detox from dental amalgam.

Are you looking for some type of "liver cleanse", teas, herbal supplements, enemas, fasting, diuretics, colon purging??? Most of that sounds miserable, lol. So, I've never investigated it.

Would he consider going raw for a month, a week? What are his limitations on time commitment? Some of those alternatives require constant access to the bathroom, without other urgent responsibilities, traveling, dietary restrictions, etc. Depending upon his interest...

Here are a few links that I found:

Here is a two week detox diet and quiz about it. (no recommendation, just a google search hit):

Detox diet plans (another google hit): http://www.everydiet.org/detox_diet.htm
Raw Food Diet A generic diet advocating consumption of raw, uncooked food only.
Diuretic Diet Using natural diuretics to alleviate fluid retention.
Fat Flush Diet Popular 3 phase diet plan from Ann Gittleman
Fruit Flush Fruit Flush 3 Day Detox by Jay Robb
Hallelujah Diet Bible-based diet from George Malkmus.
Lemonade Diet The Master Cleanser by Stanley Burroughs.
Liquid Diets Liquid or Juice-only diets are sometimes used as a short-term detox program.
Liver Cleansing Diet A bestseller since 1997, Dr Cabot attributes many health conditions to poor liver function.
Martha's Vineyard Detox Diet Claims a weight loss of 21 pounds in 21 days.
UltraSimple Diet A 7-day health program, Dr Hyman recommends this in addition to his Ultrametabolism book and health program.

Here is a detox product review: http://www.detoxreviews.com/

Perhaps, adding some bone broths, green juice, probiotics, and a lot of water, he'd feel better?? Are there dietary aspects that you all could build into your lifestyle that improve gut health, proactively? Or perhaps, you are doing that already.

Hope to read some more replies.

I have used the Zand Herbal Quick Cleanse Program several times over the years. I really like the results I have experienced each time. It is relatively easy to follow and is not a fast, though you are limited as to what you can eat. HTH
I am interested in this as well. I am BFing so when I am done I hope to do some major detoxing.

I have read a lot about it but am still at a loss as to what I want to do.
Of course start with the colon and work my way through the body. I really want to do a liver eventually.
I need to stimiulate my lymphnodes as well.
There are also some toxins that can only leave through your skin, so to get them all you have to sweat some of them out. Once I come up with a plan I think it will be a process I will start and cycle through a few times.
I think we have decided to just have him go see that natural doc in Matthews. They have a detox program. And I would fell better about the process being supervised by someone familiar with it.

Poison Ivy

Does anyone have suggestions for relieving poison ivy itch?  I'm new to holistic treatments, and hubby has a small case of what he thinks is poison ivy or oak on face and hands.
