Exploring Holistic Alternatives

Families practicing: Alternative & Natural Health; Attachment and Mindful Parent

I'm Francie, and my husband and 3 girls just moved here from Iowa last month. We're renting in Mint Hill, and building a farm east of here. We homeschool. We have 3 horses (and will be boarding a 4th), various indoor animals and honeybees. We'll add some goats, chickens and a cat as soon as we're ready. The kids are lobbying for a potbellied pig, a donkey and another dog. We'll see. I am lobbying hard against the pig. I've never lived on a farm before; I'm really from Chicago. I'm excited about trying a new way of life! (we'll see what I have to say about that next year)
;-) But then again, maybe it won't be hugely different for me, because I've spent many years gardening and scooping poop - this will just be on a larger scale! I still need to see if they deliver pizza and an ambulance out there...

We are enjoying this area very much. Everyone has been so nice.

I'm feeling a bit like the "old lady" of the group here, as my kids are 15, 11 and 9! Oh well, I guess it has to happen some time!

Welcome Francie! I've wrote to you a while ago but it was before you moved here. We have land east of Mint Hill out 218 but currently live in Matthews. My girls are about to turn 9 and 11. My oldest wants a pig too :) We live in a neighborhood now so 7 cats and our chickens will have to do, though we are considering some dwarf Nigerian Dwarf goats. They are really small, maybe no one will notice - LOL!

Welcome to the group and NC! Your farm sounds great! I look forward to hearing about your adventures and how you are enjoying life on the farm! I was just telling my husband I wanted to buy a house with some land so we could have a bigger garden and some animals.

Hope to meet soon.

I remember meeting you at Pat's house for the luncheon. Have you found a builder yet for your house? I hope you are settling in and finding your way around. Welcome to the group.
Hey Terri! Thanks! We do have a builder. Union County is dragging their feet about the septic permit, and my dh is raising he!! about it, so as soon as we get that, they are ready to start digging the hole (the septic plan is fine - approved by the left hand and the right hand is not doing their job, you know, it's a government thing). Maybe see you at another lunch or dinner? Cheers, Francie
Welcome to the group! I also met you at Pat's house. I hope the home building process is going well for you. Good luck with the farm! Sounds like a great adventure and challenge.

Poison Ivy

Does anyone have suggestions for relieving poison ivy itch?  I'm new to holistic treatments, and hubby has a small case of what he thinks is poison ivy or oak on face and hands.
