Families practicing: Alternative & Natural Health; Attachment and Mindful Parent

I wasn't sure where to put this but was hoping for some input. We were cleaning the attic this weekend and we have FOUR old car seats. One toddler size and 3 boosters. You can't give them to anyplace and I can't seem to find any place to recycle them. Basically, it's to the dump but OMG they are huge and that stresses me out but we really need to clear them out.

Any thoughts or something I'm not thinking of ?

Thanks!

Anna

Unfortunately, I think that old carseats need to be dumped in such a way that they are no longer usable. Old seats are unsafe. At the very least, cut all the straps and things. I have a friend who is a certified CPST and she uses an electric saw to cut them in half! Good luck.
I gave mine to my sister. The carseats were not that old and they had never been in an accident. My sister knew she could trust me regarding the carseats.

Anyway any of the parts of the seat could be recycled? Think maybe the art school at UNCC or Art Institute of Charlotte could use them?
I've seen people freecycle booster seats before. I don't think there is quite as much concern with those as with the infant/toddler seats with the straps. A booster has less that can go wrong with it since you are using the car's restraint system and just "boosting" them up. And since I'm assuming you know the history of the seats you can give them away knowing they were never in an accident.

Thanks for all of the replies. I felt the same about the boosters. I was able to give the two newer ones to a friend. So at least there are only two I will have to dispose of, though I am going to go look at them with fresh eyes for parts we could do crafts with.

Thanks again,

Anna

Poison Ivy

Does anyone have suggestions for relieving poison ivy itch?  I'm new to holistic treatments, and hubby has a small case of what he thinks is poison ivy or oak on face and hands.
