I've done MeetUp. I LOVE the online tool. However, it costs $150 per year. And I prefer to keep my costs to free and other's not having to fork over money, either. The Ning and Yahoo are both free. The Ning message board has more features and is more confusing, for many people. Yahoo is basic and more straightforward, ime.
I really like the reminders sent automatically also. They seem to be more consistent and in advance of the event, than when I do them manually. The Ning doesn't have a tool for that, unfortunately. And Yahoo doesn't have an RSVP tool.
I'll try to send out the notices more consistently in advance. The gatherings are on a regular schedule also, to help with planning, first Tuesday-MNO, third Wednesday-evening, fourth Sunday-afternoon.
Hope to see you out and about! Thanks again for the input. I'm glad I'm not drowning you in emails. (yet, lol)
