I have a question about summertime nursing. My 10 mos old and I keep passing this yeast back and forth. Any ideas how to squelch that? I am a runner therefore a sweat-er, so is it unavoidable? I've tried baking soda (still working with that, it helps), tried bathing 3x a day, tried staying inside most of the time...tried probiotics, tried yogurt on skin, tried (uggghh) medicine prescribed by doctor. Any ideas? Much appreciated!

A vinager rinse on your nipples before and after feedings can help. A friend also swears that she tried everything and Keifer (she got from Pat I think) cleared it right up.
keifer on the skin or ingested? Thanks for the info!
I used Probiotics on the skin, took internally and gave to my baby. I got infant probiotics for him.
I still need to learn more about making Keifer from Pat!

also if you have yeast on your breast, keeeping them dry as much as possible. Do not use nursing pads with plastic backings. Vinger rinse also good to use.

there is also information on diets to decrease yeast... especially avoiding sugar and wheat products are on the list too.
We all have yeast, it is just when it gets out of balance that it shows up as thrush and yeast infections. It can be a very persistent problem.
Our pediatrician back in California, Dr. Jay Gordon, only male doctor Board Certified Lactation Consultant, recommended diluted grapefruit seed extract in a spray bottle. Only thing he recommended, 100% safe for babies. Spray on nipples, pat with cotton pad. We used 1 -3 drops in a one ounce bottle. It is very concentrated, do not put directly on skin or eyes; read the bottle. We used it for diaper rash, never have had to use anything else. You can also take it internally; anti-yeast and anti-candida formula. Dr. Jay also told us this was safe for nursing since it is derived from a whole food; not an herb. You can also visit his website. He has an index for help with health issues; www.drjaygordon.com. I wish you the best! Nicole

Poison Ivy

Does anyone have suggestions for relieving poison ivy itch?  I'm new to holistic treatments, and hubby has a small case of what he thinks is poison ivy or oak on face and hands.
