No problem, we're flexible. You are certainly welcome to join us! If you want to invite the in-laws, they are welcome too for the family potluck. :-) I understand the last minute stuff always catches up with me.

See you soon.

The park day on Fridays, tomorrow is Thursday, btw, I think, lol. :-)

The community garden is in the backyard of one of my friends. We plowed up a 50x50 ft area. She is here is Weddington, nearby. The garden is on its last legs for the summer. We are still getting a few beans, tomatoes, peppers, lots of eggplant and basil. And a few pumpkins.

Bob the Builder introduced recycling. LOL Our son is Erik. Locally, NONE of the YMCAs recycle. I don't believe there are any recyling options inside, nor outside. We were at soccer camp there and there was no way to recycle. People were just trashing all the water bottles. And I don't recall seeing anything inside to collect recycling either.

I just need to help create a solution and then suggest that. It is on my "to do" list!

Heading to bed.

I just wrote a long note that disappeared! Oh dear.

The short version is that we lived right near where you are buying. It is a FABULOUS location and great investment.

I garden. We had a community garden with 20 families this summer. Friends that live near you had backyard chickens. There are discounted rain barrels available at the Earth Day Charlotte in April. I haven't heard anything about SOKHOP yet. I hope someone will post about it. I'd love to hear more about the presenters.

Mint Hill park day is each Friday. The calendar doesn't have a recurring event option. So, it just needs to be updated. Here are the details.

Sandra, we lived right near where you are buying (off Sharon View Rd), until we moved out to Weddington. We have 2 acres out here. (We are straight out Providence Rd.) But, the Carmel and Colony area is a FABULOUS area to be investing in!! The houses definitely appreciate there. You are close to everything!

I love gardening. We even created a community garden with our homeschool group this summer. There were about 20 families participating, most novice. It was fun, productive and beautiful. Definitely have to have a garden! My friends live just up the street there and they had backyard chickens, fresh eggs and no rooster. ;-) Unless you have neighborhood covenants that is a possibility. I want chickens, ducks and a pygmy goat. My husband isn't ready for the goat. He is ok with the ducks. The chickens have been discussed for 2 years now. A secure enclosure is the most challenging aspect.

There is an EarthDay each April at "Splash Planet". You can get rain barrels there at a huge discount. Solar is more difficult to integrate, I believe, unless starting from scratch. Maybe outside lighting. We don't have any solar intentions. The big thing I'd like to see is more participation in recycling. Our neighborhood is a huge consumption and landfill producer. The holidays are the worst! MANY Enormous boxes just trashed. I'd like to do something to increase awareness. And the YMCA doesn't recycle! They have huge soccer and sporting events and all the water bottles are trashed. Those are my two "issues' because of the volume. Our son is interested involvement about recycling. He is seven. So, I'm facilitating and encouraging his participation.

We didn't make it to SOKHOP. I hope folks will post about it here or discuss it at the gatherings.

Cara Yara had posted the Mint Hill park day on Events last week. The events calendar doesn't have a "repeating" event option. So, we'll need to repost it. Here are the details.

Sorry we'll miss you for the Melting Pot. We juggle child care here too. Like I said, my friend is around the corner. She has two teenage boys, 14 and 16. They are very responsible. I don't know if they babysit outside of family. But, I can check, if you need a babysitter. Our son only wanted mom or dad or my sister to babysit, until about age 4. And he wasn't ok with me leaving until about age 2.

Welcome to Charlotte. You are purchasing in the most desirable area, right near South Park, "short" commute uptown, and the houses are appreciating, and it is a soft market, best time to buy, imo. We sold our house there during a soft market, five years ago and it is worth so much more now!

Have a great day.

Looks like you all just moved here recently. We love Charlotte! Closing with all the "news" is unsettling. But, all is well! It will all work out. Where is the house you all are buying?

We didn't make it to sokhop, did you go? I REALLY wanted to go. But, we had other events already planned. It sounded fascinating and quite a "new age" event for Charlotte!

Are you coming to the MNO? Or maybe the park day in Mint Hill? The Old Mint Hill park is fabulous. It has huge old oak trees, and a large open area for the kids to run and play. And you can see them from everywhere in the park. Plus a new large playset, picnic tables, and it is just lovely and peaceful.
