Families practicing: Alternative & Natural Health; Attachment and Mindful Parent

Hey Ladies (and gents),

I'm noticing that my little one's bum is getting little red rashes with bumps. I know I'm not supposed to use diaper cream with CD but what am I supposed to do to treat the rash?

You can use some creams with cloth diapers. I've used Balmex for eight months (as needed, not all the time) with no problems. But there are creams that are specifically safe for cloth diapers, like Grandma El's and California Baby. The one ingredient you need to watch out for is cod liver oil, which is in Desitin and A&D, I believe.
Thank you so much, Amelia. This is still an issue and I am grateful for the information.
Kimberly, baby shouldn't have rashes, generally that is some food intolerance either directly or through mama's milk. Dairy is the most common cause, but is usually associated with a red ring around the anus, and/or green mucusy stools.

Giving baby cod liver oil directly, whole food probiotics and bone broth are great for helping to address food intolerances.

We used Flander's Butt Creme with cloth diapers before I realized some of the dietary issues.

Thanks, Pat. She doesn't have anything around the anus. I'm trying to think what else I eat that could be causing this. Is spicy food an issue? Her rash is always on her labia and starts off with little red spots that get worse and sometimes bleed. I can tell it itches. I've changed her cream to Mama Rose's Natural stuff.

I need to get her a new pediatrician but haven't had much time to research holistic doctors here in Augusta.
That sounds like yeast. Try topical coconut oil.

Do you have/had any mercury fillings in your teeth? Antibiotics during pregnancy/birth? Has she had any antibiotics, antacids, or steroids? Yeast is common afterwards.

How old is she? If age 1, you could give a tablespoon of kombucha to help get rid of the yeast. Feeding yogurt, or topical yogurt helps too.

Whole food probiotics are ideal, like kefir. But adding bifidum and lactobacillus are helpful for rebalancing the yeast.

Have you recently started giving her dairy directly? Or added grains to her diet? (Rice, corn, wheat, oats, etc?)

Pat
Damn those yeasties! Llewellyn was born via c-section May of last year and had thrush for the first two months of her life (it went undetected and then the medicine didn't work). I gave her probiotics and they eventually subsided but still rear their ugly little bodies.

Sadly, I know I ingest WAY TOO MUCH sugar. I'm an addict between the ice cream and cinnamon cereal. The funny thing is that I didn't crave ice cream or sugar when I was pregnant with her - only chicken taco salads.

As for her diet, she eats Stonyfield Farms baby yogurt about every other day and has been for the last couple of months. She does eat oatmeal but has been since she was six months. She also gets a tiny bit of cheese when I make her eggs or with her whole wheat pasta. This issue has been present on and off for most of her 10 1/2 months of life on the outside.

I'll reintroduce the probiotics and cut back on my sugar (goddess help me) and see how things go.
Thank you so much, Pat. I wish I was still in Charlotte, I've been needing a MNO like mad.

Poison Ivy

Does anyone have suggestions for relieving poison ivy itch?  I'm new to holistic treatments, and hubby has a small case of what he thinks is poison ivy or oak on face and hands.
