I really enjoyed the book The Maker's Diet-- it's about living naturally and curing problems naturally (much about eating and health in general), based on God's plan. After reading that book, I started eating a lot of organic foods and stopped taking my prescription allergy medicine (changed to an all natural face wash that cleans out my sinuses).
Great books about our food chain( i.e. what are we eating and how does it affect us and the environment?). I'm sure many of you have read them, but figured I'd put them out there anyway:

The Botany of Desire by Michael Pollan (about co-evolution of certain crops with humans)
The Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael Pollan (different food sources are revealed: current industrial system, big organic operation, local self-sufficient farm, and hunter-gatherer)
Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver (family trying to only eat local or grow own food for 1 yr)

Next on my list is Pollan's newest book, In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto released earlier this year.

Aromatherapy For The Healthy Child: More than 300 natural, nontoxic and fragrant essential oil blends by Valerie Ann Worwood.

The Naturally Clean Home: Over 100 safe and easy herbal formulas for nontoxic cleansers by Karyn Siegel-Maier.

Easy Homeopathy: The 7 essential remedies you need for common illnesses and first aid by Edward Shalts.

I just bought the book/cookbook Nourishing Traditions: The Cookbook that Challenges Politically Correct Nutrition and the Diet Dictocrats by Sally Fallon. It is also about getting back to the way we are supposed to eat. I have not read it yet, but I am looking forward to it. If anyone has read it I would love to hear what you think of it. The problem I usually have with these books is they promote eating animal products. I am a vegetarian and will not go back to eating meat. We do eat organic dairy and eggs.

Thanks.

Poison Ivy

Does anyone have suggestions for relieving poison ivy itch?  I'm new to holistic treatments, and hubby has a small case of what he thinks is poison ivy or oak on face and hands.
