Hi All,
I install raised bed vegetable gardens that are so easy to manage that everyone can do it. No green thumb required. I install them in back yards throughout the greater Charlotte area, but I'm also looking for churches who want to put in community gardens to help grow food for the homeless and for restaurants who want to grow fresh, organic vegetables for their customers.
I also do talks on organic gardening, and heirloom seeds.
I am having a friend of my husbands build us a veggie garden. I will need your advice I'm sure. I want to start a composting pile too. Good idea or not so much?
Don, I made four 4x8 ft. raised garden beds according to your book directions!! They are LOVELY!! I tell everyone about your helpful book, No Green Thumb Required!.
I used red cedar and blocked the corners, per directions. All By Myself. ;-) ...with the help of my 7 year old. I purchased compost from Blue Max and added sand 75/25, plus green sand and Epsom salts for the minerals. I've planted about a dozen tomato plants and pepper plants, some eggplant, basil, and about six types of bush and climbing beans, and pickling cucumbers, plus a 'ground cover' of late mescaline mix and carrots and dill to help deter weed overgrowth. I'm watering religiously with this dry weather. And everything is sprouting along beautifully!! We also made three hills for zucchini, squash, cantaloupe and watermelons.
Thank you for your guidance and enthusiasm.
I hope others will consider adding a few raised beds for organic, homegrown vegetables!! It isn't "too late" yet for a garden.
