What is it and what is it for? (I'll go google, lol)

Oh, an otoscope to check your baby's ears? Nah, don't need one. Just avoid pasteurized dairy, do the homeopathy, breastfeed and they'll be fine. :-)

Or just breastfeed and he'll be fine.

I'm wondering if we need one or not. We haven't up until this point. Just thinking it might be one of those good things to have. KWIM?
Well, I was as neurotic as a new mama could be, lol, and I didn't have one. Even as a nurse, I didn't feel that I could self-diagnosis ear drum inflammation. (I did have a stethoscope though.) We just never had any ear issues, and Erik had every allergy known to man. And if there were an issue, we'd see Naomi and she doesn't look at ears, lol. The overall constitution is the issue, imo, not the "parts" of the whole body.

Are you having worries or nesting excitement? Target probably carries them at this point. So, if you needed one you could get one. Or just go see Dr. Dino and he'd have a quick look-see.

Dairy is the #1 cause of mucus production in the ears. That is an environment ripe for yucky stuff to grow. Raw milk is totally different due to enzymes, not heated, not homogenized, etc. So, just consume cultured dairy (yogurt or kefir) or raw milk cheese products and you are way better off than the general public.

Probiotics in the month preceding, and the month after, birth are associated with significantly fewer allergies in breastfed children. Check this thread about the role of nutrition in fetal development and health. http://www.mothering.com/discussions/showthread.php?t=983029&hi...

It is a quick nutrition snapshot for pregnant mamas.

We never used one. I don't even use a thermometer!

I have to also say my kids did not have ear issues...they had other issues, but ears seemed to be fine! If they had ear issues, I might have gotten one. Both of my boys had dairy sensitivities for their first couple of years and my youngest had upper respiratory infections constantly his first 2 years of life. To this day, none of my 3 kids have ever had an ear infection. Every time we needed to go to the doctor they would say "I am sure he has an ear infection", then were shocked when their ears looked fine. You never know what your kids will be prone too. You can always get one if you need it.

Poison Ivy

Does anyone have suggestions for relieving poison ivy itch?  I'm new to holistic treatments, and hubby has a small case of what he thinks is poison ivy or oak on face and hands.
