I am having my third but this is the first time using cloth diapers.
I am clueless. I have a collection of diapers given to me by friends.
my mom wants to get me a gift certificate to get cloth diapers but doesn't know where-
wondering how many do I need- this is like minimum need- finances are super tight and so I can wash frequently.
also how do people store them until they clean them?
I do not use bleach anymore-

Thanks!

My opinion - go with mostly prefold (pf) diapers. These are by far the most economical. You can get pfs for $1-$2 each as opposed to $15-$20+ for other types of diapers. Get a few pockets or AIOs to supplement your pfs for convenience when out and about or for night time, etc. If you get one-size diapers, it would save you from having to buy CDs in each size - bumgenius one-size are popular (I like them) and you can use the pocket as a cover if you lay the pf on it instead of putting it inside.

Check out www.diaperpin.com for reviews of cloth diapers.
Checkout www.diaperswappers.com for information, discussion and buy/sell/trade of second hand diapers.

I'd only get 1-2 of any particular brand of pocket/fitted/AIO to start, to make sure you like the diapers and that they fit your baby before you invest in more of the same.

Anyways, there's a lot of "lingo" with regard to CDs... so hopefully that makes some sense!

I found a really cool website that has a ton of ideas that really helped. I hope I don't step on any toes for sharing this, I know there are others but thought I would share this. http://www.greenmountaindiapers.com/index.htm

I am still undecided at this point on going disp or cloth but hope to at least try it out.

remember that with a newborn you'll be changing more often than an older baby. I have 18 diapers for my 2 year old and wash every other day and have 2 spare in my bag

Thanks for the tips-
Leslie, I found that website helpful as it talked about how many you need and gave suggestions for what to buy based on your budget.

Thanks everyone!
I was reading on the fourms someone suggested about washing them.
do you all put them in a dry pail until you wash?
that seamed to be the biggest consensus on the forum I read
Thanks!

We do a dry pail and wash every 2-3 days. Ideally it would be every 2 days but that doesn't happen sometimes with our schedule. :)

We have approx 14 diapers (all contours, different types with different levels of absorbency). We have 6 "good" covers and a few backup covers that we don't like as much. Of course Kodi is 6 months now so he goes through less diapers than a newborn. If a cover is only damp after being used, I hang it to dry. The good covers won't smell after drying and you can reuse them.

I use a dry pail and wash every 3 days. I love the pocket style diapers because they make changes quick and easy.

Poison Ivy

Does anyone have suggestions for relieving poison ivy itch?  I'm new to holistic treatments, and hubby has a small case of what he thinks is poison ivy or oak on face and hands.
