Exploring Holistic Alternatives

Families practicing: Alternative & Natural Health; Attachment and Mindful Parent

We have books!

Would you like to borrow any of them? Members could make a list of books they are willing to lend. But also people could just post for books they would like to read, then anyone can check their books.

We have pregnancy, birthing, breastfeeding, infant, child development, parenting, holistic, herbal, health oriented, education, homeschooling, unschooling, nutrition, dental, vaccination, allergies, homeopathy, art, crafts, gardening, chickens, LoA, fiction, etc. etc.

Requests?

Let's say a one month lending time? Folks could contact the member directly and find a time to pick up the book at their house, or arrange to bring it to a monthly event.

I just looked over at my bookshelf and saw a bunch of books that I haven't ever had time to read. But I would love it if someone else could get some use out of them! I haven't read all of these, so I don't vouch for the contents, although they are all books I would like to read.

Parenting:
The Baby Book - Everything you need to know about your baby Age Birth -Two by Sears & Sears (have to laugh at the title, like everything you need to know could be in a book! - this was a hand-me-down, very worn, cover ripped, but still readable)
Three in a Bed - the benefits of sharing your bed with your baby by Deborah Jackson
The Youngest Minds - Parenting & Genes in the Development of Intellect & Emotion by Barnet & Barnet
Mothering Your Nursing Toddler by Norma Jane Bumgarner
The Nursing Mother's Guide to Weaning by Kathleen Huggins
Reviving Ophelia - Saving the Selves of Adolescent Girls by Mary Pipher
Born to Rebel - Birth Order, Family Dynamics & Creative Lives by Frank Sulloway

Gardening, Nature:
Newcomb's Wildflower Guide by Lawrence Newcomb
One Acre & Security - How to Live Off the Earth Without Ruining It by Bradford Angier
The Tree Identification Book by George Symonds
The Shrub Identification Book by George Symonds
Identifying and Harvesting Edible and Medicinal Plants by "Wildman" Steve Brill
Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingsolver (fiction - about predators, sustainable farming)
This is but a *tiny* sampling of the books I have. Also, some of my favorites were missing and I think Pat has them, so she can write them down :) But do ask if there is something you have been wanting to read because I really have a TON of books.

Kids Are Worth It Coloroso
Siblings without Rivalry Faber and Mazlish
Punished by Rewards Kohn
Kids, Parents and Power Struggles Kurcinka

Several homeopathy and essential oil books

Pat
I heard about a book called The Urban Homestead from another forum. Does anyone know anything about it??

Jenn
I think I am going to have to raid your bookshelves next time I visit!

Jenn
Yes, on the potluck, take a look.

Pat
There is a book by that name, but here is a web site also. Different "authors" it seems, though. http://www.pathtofreedom.com/about/urbanhomestead.shtml
http://www.amazon.com/Urban-Homestead-Self-sufficient-Process-Self-...

Another friend, Page, is passionate about "Food, Not Lawns". http://www.amazon.com/Food-Not-Lawns-Neighborhood-Community/dp/1933... She probably has a copy.

LOL I am suggesting lending books that I don't own...

Pat
I will have to take you up on that.
Wow what a great idea. I need to take inventory of my books and post them. People could put there name and phone number inside their books if they want to be sure they come back to them. some of my books, I may be willing to just pass on and let whoever takes them, do the same.
Hi Pat! may I barrow Unconditional Parenting- Alfie Kohn?
Thanks,
Joy
Sure. When will I see you next? The MNO?

Pat
Would "Bring/tell about/share your favorite holistic books" be of interest for the Wednesday monthly gathering in February?

We could even do a Lending Library then. We'd need some type of system, names in the book, and phone number of person borrowing, or something like that. Or we could just show/share about our favorite books, if they are frequently referenced, etc.

Poison Ivy

Does anyone have suggestions for relieving poison ivy itch?  I'm new to holistic treatments, and hubby has a small case of what he thinks is poison ivy or oak on face and hands.
