We are currently in the market for an under the sink water filter and a shower filter.
I would greatly appreciate any recommendations?
Thanks,
Joy

Joy, did you get your filters?

I'm going to piggyback on your message in case someone else might see it and answer one or the other of us.

We had a Rainsoft system in our garage that had a filter and a softener. We are not going to replace it as I don't think I need a softener here in Indian Trail. Anyway, just looking for comments and suggestions. I can't order it until our contents check clears the bank anyway.

Right now, I mainly want something that will take out the chlorine and then whatever else it takes out is gravy. It will be so nice not to have to shower and bathe in chlorine. What i am thinking about doing is testing our water after it is installed to see if there is something else to be concerned about.

I am leaning towards the Pelican PC600 (for 1-3 bathrooms, we have 2.5) for these reasons:

It has a initial sediment filter
The cost is reasonable (about $700)
It uses some kind of carbon from coconut shells which seems to be the best
It lasts for 600,000 gallons (about 5 years) before needing new filter
The replacement cost for the filter is very reasonable (about $160)
You only replace the media inside, not the whole thing
You only need to replace the prefilter about every 6 to 9 months
It seems to have the appropriate NSF certifications
No back washing required

The only other one that I seriously considered is an Aquasan. But the replacement cost is really high, almost like buying a whole new one.

With whole house filters you sometimes still need to do a sink filter depending on the water. I am really excited about having this and not having to be concerned about our water. I have wanted one for a long time and this is certainly on the "perk" side of the garage fire. It didn't seems like the one we had really did anything cause my bath still smelt like a dip in the pool.
Hi Joy-- we use the Aquasana system. We have the undersink system, and also filters that attach to each of our showers. I bought them from Aquasana.com, and they do a monthly payment plan and send new filters every 6 months, so it isn't such a big hit when I need new filters. I've been happy with them. Christine
We purchased an under the water filter from this company
http://www.pure-earth.com/
I really wanted the 14-Stage Biocompatible under the counter water filter from Radiant Life
http://www.radiantlifecatalog.com/sec.cfm/ct/7
but $1595.o0 wasn't really in the budget.
The pure earth filter is really affordable--if anyone else is looking for a filter check them out, they are NSF certified.

Thanks for the input Karen!
Thanks Christine!!

Poison Ivy

Does anyone have suggestions for relieving poison ivy itch?  I'm new to holistic treatments, and hubby has a small case of what he thinks is poison ivy or oak on face and hands.
