Didn't know which thread to put this in, it could fit into so many!
Anyway, I'm looking for some referrals to good thrift/consignment stores. My kids need a few things for their fall/winter wardrobe and I want to try to start shopping a little more frugally/greenly/sustainably/etc. Also, any recommendations for adult clothes thrift/consignment stores? What about furniture?
I know about Kids at Heart, but I don't think they have very good deals until they put it all on sale. Is Carousel Kids in Matthews any good? I'm in the SE Charlotte area, just North of Matthews!

Oh, one of my favorite topics!! Have you been to Consignment 1st?? I have bought everything for our house there!! Leather sofa with leather chair and ottoman, eight-way hand-tied springs total $650!! Looks new! Fabulous. It is my favorite. There are several, Independence, Pineville, Rock Hill, Lake Norman, University area. The best quality and value that I've found is at the Independence store. http://www.consignment1st.com/
We've only purchased consignment clothes for ds, except a few character shirts/pjs/underware from Walmart/Target. But, mostly, Once Upon A Child! There are two that I know about, Independence and Pineville. I think Carousel Kids has nice quality, but a bit higher prices. http://www.ouac.com/
For clothing, I like "Very Terry", up in Dilworth. Her prices are amazing for top-brand dressy and casual clothes. http://www.shopveryterry.com/
And the Good Will off Weddington Rd has dress pants for $3 each. It is amazing! Talbots, even!!
Karousel Kids is Awesome!!! I consign and buy there frequently. Dana is the owner. Trendy Tots is in Mint Hill they are going to have a get together open to the public for networking local businesses. October 23rd 6pm on the corner of 51 and Lawyers road. They are under new ownership and have cleaned up lots!! They have a beautiful store and lots of coo stuff. I think the Mint Hill Times will cover the event. I will be there with my cloth diapers- there will be door prizes and refreshments. it would give you a good opportunity to check out there stuff!! Also, Goodwill isn't bad if you have the patience. I bought some Benneton and Ann Taylor sweaters there for $3.49 each.
I'm a self-confessed thrift-o-holic. I'm just as bad with my Saturday morning yard saling. Anyhow, Goodwill has some great things. The prices are okay (I'm such a bargain hound). There are several Goodwill locations (check their website) - on Weddington Rd, Sardis Rd North, Pineville next to the Food Lion, and more. Salvation Army has a big store just east of Matthews-Mint Hill Rd on Independence. The Matthews Help Center (check their website too for hours) is in downtown Matthews on the same road as the Habitat ReStore (which I love!). They are a great source for kids books (best prices). Junior League Wearhouse is on Randolph Rd next Elizabeth (Uptown area) and it has some great high end clothes that are in recent styles for good deals. It's a nice place to shop. They have kids clothes and shoes as well. It's part consignment and part donation for it's source. If you're wanting some *real* thrift shopping then head north west to Freedom Dr and check out the Goodwill Outlet, Community Thrift and Value Village. Three thrift stores all within sight of eachother and two are neighbors. The Goodwill Outet is by far my favorite since the clothes are $1.98 (or near that) a pound and I need wool sweaters for my stools. Plus, I love rummaging and finding great things for next to nothing. Lots of great options out there. Karousel Kids is great for consignment clothes, but I prefer to shop at thrift for clothes and like to do Karousel Kids for house/toy/misc things. We consign there as well. Whew... that was an earful! Let me know if I can help with your thrifting -- it's such an addiction for me!!
